Load Bank Testing

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) sets safety standards to protect commercial building occupants from various hazards. NFPA 110 outlines the performance requirements for emergency and standby power systems, ensuring an alternate source of electrical power in buildings and facilities when the primary power source fails. These systems encompass power sources, transfer equipment, controls, supervisory equipment, and accessory equipment necessary to supply electrical power to the designated circuits.

Our Load Bank Testing services are designed to ensure that your generators perform optimally under various load conditions. Load bank testing involves simulating real-world electrical loads to verify the generator's capacity to handle peak performance and identify any potential issues before they become critical.

In compliance with NFPA 110 standards, our load bank testing procedures include:

  • Monthly Testing: Generators are tested under available load (building load) for a minimum of 30 minutes, ensuring they achieve the minimum exhaust gas temperature or operate at no less than 30% of the nameplate kilowatt rating.

  • Annual Testing: If a generator fails the monthly test, it undergoes a two-hour load bank test, operating at 25% of the nameplate rating for 30 minutes, 50% for 30 minutes, and 75% for 60 minutes.

  • Triennial Testing: Every 36 months, diesel-powered emergency power supplies are tested for four continuous hours, with the first three hours at no less than 30% of the nameplate rating and the last hour at no less than 75%.
